Why Not?

Today is laundry day in Albuquerque which got me thinking about a better way to dry clothes than line drying or tumbling and applying heat.

I'm thinking why not boil it off to evaporate it?

But water boils at 212 degrees Fahrenheit! But that's at sea level; I know from high altitude hiking that boiling water at 9000 ft is colder. So I'm thinking why not cold boil the clothes.

Huh? Yep, put them in a vacuum chamber and lower the atmospheric pressure, the draw off the evaporated moisture.

Presto - dry clothes at room temperature and no heat damage.

I'm not the first to have this idea - check this out.
